Struggles of Finding an Interview

 Hey guys! I’ve made more progress on my article and would like to share it with you guys. For my third paragraph, I now want to talk about my topic and how social media can also affect people in sports. I decided I wanted to include a coach from a different school to give my audience a better understanding of how big this issue is in the sport industry. But I wasn’t sure who to interview.


I started looking for coaches online that were around the area with a strong background in sports because I wanted to make my article as strong as possible. My goal was to get a coach that works with students and understand the challenges of social media.  I spent hours trying to contact many coaches through their social media and emails, however many didn’t respond or were not interested. 


However my friend recommended to me his coach that is in Hialeah-Miami Lakes. Her name is Miriam Metzcus Ochoa and she is recognized at UCF as one of the best volleyball players of her decade. She was inducted into UCF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025. She ​​led the Knights to consecutive ASUN titles (93-94), an appearance in the NIVC in 1993 and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1994. Hearing this made me want to contact her, so I personally went to the school and asked her if she would be interested and luckily she said yes. So we planned the interview for a specific date and time.

Intro

  My name is Jonathan Romero, and I’m more than happy to show my project on exploring the importance of athletes' mental health and how social media can play a huge role in it. So enjoy as I demonstrate my thought process in this blog. What made me want to write my magazine about the effects of  social media in athletes' lives is how much I relate to them. More Than Just an Interview

  Hey guys, today I interviewed Hialeah Miami Lakes coach Ochoa. We talked through a zoom meeting that lasted around 30 minutes. At first I was nervous but luckily I had some questions prepared so when I started the interview I was well prepared. In the interview we covered a lot in the topic, it is something that she has seen as a major issue in current athletes. I recorded the interview to highlight the most important parts of the interview into my article and documentary. “Athletes tend to find self evaluation through social media by checking the comments made about them. It tends to be a source of ego boost for them, but what happens when they realize people are criticizing them?
